What are UI and UX?

What is UI

UI stands for User Interface, which refers to the way a user interacts with and manipulates a digital product or system. This includes the graphical layout, visual design, and functionality of the product, and how the user navigates and utilizes it to accomplish tasks or access information.

Improve UI

Good UI design is characterized by the following traits:

  1. Usability: The interface is easy to use and navigate, with a clear and intuitive structure.
  2. User-centered Design: Designers center the interface around the needs and goals of the user, rather than the goals of the business or technology.
  3. Accessibility: Designers aim to make the interface accessible to as many users as possible, including those with disabilities.
  4. Aesthetically pleasing: The design of the interface is visually appealing, with a consistent style and appropriate use of typography, color, and images.
  5. Responsiveness: The interface adjusts to different screen sizes and devices, and provides a good user experience regardless of the context in which it is used.
  6. Feedback: The interface provides clear and meaningful feedback to the user, such as through error messages or status updates.
  7. Efficiency: The interface allows users to perform tasks quickly and easily, without unnecessary steps or distractions.

What is UX

UX stands for User Experience, which refers to the overall experience and satisfaction a person has while using a product, system, or service. It encompasses all aspects of the interaction a person has with a product, including the UI (User Interface), but also includes other factors such as the brand, marketing, and customer support.

Improve UX

Good UX design involves creating products that are not only functional and efficient but also enjoyable and satisfying to use. This requires a deep understanding of the user’s needs, motivations, and behaviour, as well as the ability to design solutions that meet those needs and create a positive experience for the user.

What’s our take on UX and UI

First of all, UI is at the centre of UX. Why? Well if your user gets frustrated because the website is difficult to use, you will lose them. Design must be intuitive. A good example of this is the save button. Nobody has used a stiffy in many years, yet we all know that that symbol is for saving our documents. That being said, assuming that your users know what a hamburger menu is, may be dependent on your users. If your target audience is not as web savvy as some, you might find it easier to make things as obvious as possible. By adding, as an example, the text “menu” below the hamburger, you will alleviate all confusion.
